Back at Hog Hill

I’d not planned to race this weekend when I was planning my year, but after last weeks revelation that racing can still be fun even if you are guaranteed to get dropped, I was back at Hog Hill this weekend.I stayed near the front for a good few km before I got dropped so I soft pedalled back to G2 which was about 12 guys and 3 of us where able to do any work while the rest sucked wheels and generally annoyed me.

The three of us that would work just didn’t gel together at all. We were all willing to do our bit, but it just didn’t coincide with the others idea of what was needed.

I’d come over the top of the climb first, then going back down the other side the guy on the Merckx would use his smaller size to get much more of a tuck and lead us into the flat bit gaining a few length as we went into the tail wind section, which meant I was on the front again. As soon as we went into the head wind he slowed (a lot) and I’d be on the front, half way to the climb the other dude would come around and spin like mad until we got near the top of the climb and I’d be on the front again.

I faded in the middle part of the race but got a second wind and managed to finish quite strong up the last climb.

Good fun, and I’m happy to have finished.

Sean managed to crash on the up hill hair pin (we think pedal strike) so he’s yet to finish a race there. Tom P finished quite a long way ahead of me in his first race. Well done mate.

45 minutes of the 55 minute race was spent above HR zone 6
