Audax, Diet and Racing.

On the 6th of Feb I rode in my first Audax event, The Hailsham 1066 106km long and fairly lumpy. I’d loaded the route into my Garmin Edge 305 and clipped the cue sheet to my stem with a bulldog clip that I’d taped on. Jan, a fellow Rollapaluza rider met me at the start and we rolled off at 8:30am. Within two turns I was lost on the cue sheet, but managed to follow the black line on the Garmin for the rest of the day. the only time it become difficult was when the route crossed as I couldn’t work out which way to take and had to look at the cue sheet again and try to work out where I had got to.

The weather was cold but remained dry, I flatted my front tub on Hastings sea front and got the spare on in a few minutes.

All in all it was a great day. Very much looking forward to the next one which is 200k and at the end of March.

My weight is still hovering around the 80kg mark and I’m pretty happy with that at the moment. Come summer I should lose a little more with the increased intensity and the longer days. My friend sent me a link the other day to something that has been helping me a lot with my nutrition tracking. The issue I have with doing this normally is having to transfer all the information from the packet to a spreadsheet. With Daily Burn you just type in the food and it fills in the details. For the iPhone owners it does bar code scanning too.

The weekend after this one sees me in my first race of the season. It’s at Hog Hill, which I’m sure you will have guessed by the name has a great big hill at the end of every lap. I’ve done very little race intensity stuff since September so it’s going to be a shock to the system for sure. I’m hoping that the effort I’ve put into building my base will at least allow me to hang. My aim for the race is to finish and have a whole lot of fun.
